Changing My Story Around Nutrition

Hey, everyone!

If you remember, this past summer was a very powerful one, with 7 planets in retrograde and 3 eclipses...the Heavens inviting us to slow down, go inward, take a deep look, make any necessary changes.

For me who hates cooking and who can go for hours without eating, it was an invitation to change my story around nutrition...eating, cooking... So in July, I started seeing a holistic nutritionist, and I can say that things are beginning to change. I have no donuts, bread, muffins, or any other pastries in the house. I can have dark chocolate, as long as it is greater than 70% cacao. I still occasionally have a tea and donut at Tim Horton's, but I'm not bringing them home.

Except for last week, when my oldest pup, Cuddles passed away, and I spent several days hibernating at home, and had some Smile cookies and donuts from Tim Horton's...brought a form of comfort, I guess; something familiar.

Now this is not to say that I'm not eating out. I still do about once every week or two and I'm still having a pop and popcorn when I go to the show. I'm learning to look upon these times as "planned indulgences", and they are okay...once in a while. I used to look upon them as "cheating" and when I did that, I'd get down on myself and feel guilty. Not good. I'm also learning to connect with how I feel when I eat that hamburger and fries, that pizza and Caesar salad, that donut... Do I feel full and satisfied and nourished or is it sitting like a lump in my stomach? Becoming more conscious and aware of what I choose to put into my mouth and why I choose to eat those things. Baby steps....

But something really big...I've started cooking again...keeping it simple, and trying some new recipes. And of course, the type of food I'm bringing into the house has changed too.

This past week I asked help with setting up a meal schedule for a whole week. So will try that next week. I think that having a schedule helps so that I'm not trying to figure out what I'm going to be eating for a particular meal.

I never thought I'd be saying this, but what I really wanted to share was I was particularly proud of a homemade soup that I made the other day. Yes, HOMEMADE! Little ol' me... Who'd of thunk it?

For many of you, this particular recipe is probably a no-brainer, and no big deal. For me, though, it was huge! Especially when you consider that 2 months ago I was not doing any cooking for myself at all. Preparing meals with things that had already been cooked by others, yes, but not cooking for myself. I wanted to make a consomme soup and found this recipe online...

Quick and Easy Chinese Noodle Soup

I added: bok choy, green onions, mushrooms, broccoli and Chinese noodles to the chicken broth.

And boy, is it ever good!!! Wonderful for this cold weather that we've been having! In the past, whenever I was sick or just not feeling well, I'd go to a restaurant and bring home consomme soup. Now I can make my own. So happy to share this with you.

Have there been any changes in your life that you've felt called to make since the summer of eclipses and retrogrades? If so, I'd love to hear from you!

If there's something that you feel called to do, but you've been hesitating, have courage! Do not be afraid. Let go and let God. Spirit, the Universe, your Higher Power will see you through. Whatever conscious decision you make, you cannot make a wrong choice. Be honest with yourself. Be present. Be conscious. Pray, meditate. What are you willing to do, to give, to invest in this action that you are considering?

Whatever choice you make, the path you choose will enrich your life, leading to the lessons that you need to learn right now for your highest good. And if those lessons happen to be tough, trust that they are for your highest good, that Spirit is there to guide, and that there IS treasure in the challenges.

"If you are quiet enough, you will hear the flow of the universe. You will feel its rhythm. Go with this flow. Happiness lies ahead. Meditation is key." - Buddha
