Will you be my Valentine?

As Valentine's Day approaches, here's just a brief history of its Christian origins for those who may not know. In the third century, 2 or 3 Saints had the name Valentine. Legend says that St. Valentine whose feast day is February 14 was the Bishop of Terini, Italy. At that time Roman Emperor Claudius II was worried that his army was growing soft and so he made a law that no soldier was allowed to get married. Valentine decided to let soldiers get married in his church, even though it was against the law. Though the weddings were meant to be kept secret, word got out. Valentine was arrested, brought to the Emperor who demanded that he stop performing the weddings and instead pray to the gods of Rome. Valentine refused and the emperor sentenced him to death.

While in prison, the jailer's blind daughter brought Valentine his food. They had many long talks during these visits and fell in love. He healed her blindness. His execution was set for February 14, 270. The night before he died, he wrote his final message to her, signing it, "From your Valentine".

Dr. Athena Perrakis, Founder of Sage Goddess, writes, "This time of year can be a trigger for so many. Before we’ve even had a chance to take in the Christmas and Yule-time holidays, we’re bombarded with red heart packaging, candies, and cards for that special someone. For those who don’t have a significant other in their life, this can be confronting and stir up feelings of unworthiness and not-enoughness, and even highlight loneliness – or guilt. The Valentine’s Day holiday can resurrect feelings of inadequacy and insufficiency. It can also bring up the loss and deep-seated pain of past relationships.

But this time of year doesn’t have to be that way. There’s always a choice that allows you to recreate or feel into a new narrative around love and relationships in general. You always have the power to shift and rewrite the script about what love is to you and how it shows up in your life. You are that powerful.

Alchemy is a process of transforming one substance, state of being, thought form, or creation into another. Alchemy is the process of becoming YOU – fully, passionately, unapologetically, and truly YOU. I don’t think we discuss the alchemy present in love enough. Love indeed is an alchemical process. It is THE alchemical process. It is love that can forgive the abuse and soften the pain of a broken heart. It is love that initiates and governs the process of a child forming in its mother’s womb. It is love that holds together the agreement between Earth, Water, Fire, and Air – a sacred agreement that sustains life and makes it possible for creation on this planet. It is love that holds the stars in the sky and ensures that the Earth revolves around the Sun, creating our seasons and so much more. Love is never in absence – it’s always in abundance. The more you become aware of how love expresses and shows up, the more it will reveal itself to you. The more you become aware of love’s depth, the more you invite it to come to you in a form you desire to experience, such as an intimate relationship. When you become aware of all the ways love is, it becomes increasingly challenging to focus on when it seems love isn’t. You’ll eventually find that there isn’t a moment when love isn’t in action, in the background holding it all together. Love just is."

The Oracle’s Message: Beyond our ordinary worlds defined by our memory, our intellect, and our five senses is a mystical realm of beauty, magic, and extraordinary potential. This is the spiritual realm, the quantum reality, called by some the “Great Mystery.” This place doesn’t operate under the same laws we’re used to but rather has its own way of working that is perfect, though hard for us to understand. * When you want to know what is to come, the nature of something, or where you’re heading, it’s natural to turn to a trusted oracle and expect some kind of answer that will inform your view of how things are, might be, or should be. Sometimes this is not possible, because the elements cannot be named or are not yet in place. Things may be still in flux, so you cannot know and may never be meant to know. * No matter how hard you try to understand why something happened or how or when it will happen, now is the time to surrender to not knowing. The Mystery is a mystery because it is at present unknowable and as yet unmade. Even its potential is impossible to understand. What is waiting for you lies beyond the ordinary, but it has not yet chosen its shape, its path, and the manner by which it will be delivered. Your job is to stay the course, allowing whatever comes to be exactly as it will, without trying to ascertain anything in advance.
